Hurricanes say DIRECTV has not agreed to carry their games
Carolina says cable viewership has risen more than 50 per cent, while DIRECTV customers remain without Hurricanes Hockey Network.
The Carolina Hurricanes said Friday, Oct. 9, that DIRECTV had not accepted their offer to distribute Hurricanes Hockey Network, leaving the provider's customers without the club's games on the network.
Brian Fork, CEO of Hurricanes Holdings, said DIRECTV had been offered terms similar to those accepted by other distributors. He said cable viewership was more than 50 per cent higher than with the previous rightsholder, while Prime Video subscriptions were exceeding expectations.
Fork expressed hope that DIRECTV would eventually carry the games and welcomed the response to the network's existing partnerships.
Within Carolina's television territory, fans can receive the network's televised games through Spectrum, Prime Video, Fubo and Comporium, according to the club. That territory includes North Carolina and South Carolina, most of Georgia and parts of Alabama. Fans elsewhere can use NHL Power Play on the ESPN App or NHL Center Ice.
The Hurricanes encouraged DIRECTV subscribers to contact the provider about carrying their games.
