Hurricanes keep Legault, Reilly for opening night after defensive competition
General manager Eric Tulsky said Charles Alexis Legault and Mike Reilly earned places after a close training-camp battle.
The Carolina Hurricanes chose Charles Alexis Legault and Mike Reilly for their opening-night defence after a close competition in training camp, general manager Eric Tulsky said Monday.
Tulsky told reporters that Legault and Reilly played well through the pre-season. Juuso Valimaki, Joel Nystrom and P.O. Joseph were also in contention, he said, but the team selected the players it judged most ready to start the season.
The decision sets Carolina’s initial blue line for Tuesday’s home opener against the Florida Panthers. Tulsky said the other defencemen remain options when the club needs them and that injuries and roster changes will create further opportunities.
