Bo Horvat scored on the power play for a third straight game, and Ilya Sorokin made 22 saves as New York beat Chicago at UBS Arena.
Bo Horvat scored twice, including a power-play goal for the third game in a row, and the New York Islanders beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on Thursday.
Emil Heineman and Anthony Duclair also scored for the Islanders (2-2-0). Logan Stanley had two assists, and Ilya Sorokin stopped 22 shots. Frank Nazar scored for the Blackhawks (1-4-0), and Arvid Soderblom made 15 saves.
Horvat opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period. He won a face-off back to Matthew Schaefer, whose wrist shot from the point was stopped by Soderblom. Horvat gathered the rebound in front, pushed it to his left and scored inside the left post.
The game almost turned early in the second. Sorokin stopped a Cole Smith backhand on a breakaway at 1:08 and slid into the net on the play. A video review by The Situation Room found no conclusive evidence that the puck crossed the goal line, and the play stood.
Heineman made it 2-0 at 6:44 of the second, beating Soderblom from the high slot after Matias Maccelli found him cutting in with a pass from the right wall. Duclair made it 3-0 at 9:38, burying a one-time pass from Stanley on the right side.
Nazar ended Sorokin's shutout at 17:26 of the third, with Soderblom pulled for the extra attacker. He beat Sorokin high on the blocker side with a one-timer from between the circles, set up by Patrick Kane.
Horvat then sealed it into an empty net at 18:27 for his second of the night.
