Hintz wins it in shootout as Stars edge Avalanche
Roope Hintz scored in the fourth round of the tiebreaker to give Dallas a 3-2 win at Ball Arena, one night after Colorado beat the Stars in Dallas.
Roope Hintz settled the fourth round of the shootout, and Casey DeSmith stopped Brock Nelson to secure a 3-2 Dallas Stars victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Dallas split the back-to-back series after losing 3-2 at home on Tuesday. DeSmith made 25 saves through overtime and then stopped three of Colorado's four shootout attempts. Scott Wedgewood made 20 saves before the tiebreaker.
Gabriel Landeskog opened the scoring at 4:55 of the second period with a deflection of Nazem Kadri's shot. Miro Heiskanen brought Dallas level at 15:03, scoring from the left circle after a pass from Mikko Rantanen.
Arttu Hyry gave the Stars a 2-1 lead with a short-handed goal at 1:20 of the third period. He intercepted Cale Makar's play and beat Wedgewood on the breakaway. Nelson tied the game at 8:21 after Artturi Lehkonen's shot deflected off Thomas Harley. Kadri assisted on both Colorado goals.
Colorado had two first-period goals disallowed: Jaden Schwartz's effort was overturned for offside after a Dallas challenge, and Landeskog's was ruled a kicking motion. Hyry hit the post in overtime before the game went to a shootout.
Makar returned after missing Tuesday's game and played 22:54. Dallas forward Oskar Bäck left in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return.
