Hellebuyck to make Devils debut as New Jersey opens trip in Dallas

Connor Hellebuyck starts Tuesday in Dallas, four days after New Jersey acquired him from Winnipeg.

Connor Hellebuyck will make his New Jersey Devils debut Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. NHL.com reported Tuesday that he will start.

The Devils acquired the goaltender from the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. It will be his first NHL game since April 13, the Jets' regular-season finale; he did not report to Winnipeg's training camp and skated on his own in Michigan for several weeks before practising with New Jersey for the first time Monday.

"If you're asking me, I'm ready today," Hellebuyck said after Monday's practice. "But I don't make every decision around here."

New Jersey (7-4-0) opens a three-game road trip in Dallas after sweeping a homestand against Colorado, Anaheim and Los Angeles; it has won five of its past six. The Devils held Anaheim to 16 shots and Los Angeles to 13, and Jake Allen stopped 12 of 13 in Saturday's win over the Kings.

Dallas (7-3-1) has won five straight. Jason Robertson has multiple points in four consecutive games, including two goals in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Islanders, and Jake Oettinger has three shutouts in nine appearances.

The game starts at 8 p.m. ET. The Devils visit Colorado on Wednesday and Vegas on Friday.
