Hammers host Marlies as AHL hockey returns to Hamilton

The Hamilton Hammers host the Toronto Marlies at TD Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 9, for the club’s first regular-season home game. A ceremony will precede the opening faceoff, which is scheduled for shortly after 7 p.m. ET.
Both teams have a 1-1 record through two games. Hamilton began with a 5-2 win at Belleville before losing 5-3 in Toronto, making Friday’s game its second meeting with the Marlies this season.
Mitchell Chaffee recorded a hat trick in the Belleville victory, including the first goal in Hammers history. Vítek Vaněček made 25 saves on 27 shots. Liam Foudy has five points through two games, four of them assists, according to Hamilton’s preview.
Special teams offer a matchup to follow: the Hammers have scored on three of 13 power plays, while Toronto has conceded one goal in 12 penalty kills. Those rates are 23.1 per cent and 91.7 per cent, respectively.
Friday’s game will air on Cable14 and FloHockey. The teams will play again at TD Coliseum on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. ET.
