Guenther scores twice as Mammoth blank Blackhawks 6-0 in opener
Utah scored five times in the first two periods, while Karel Vejmelka stopped all 15 Chicago shots.
Two power-play goals from Dylan Guenther helped the Utah Mammoth beat the Chicago Blackhawks 6-0 in their season opener at Delta Center on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Karel Vejmelka finished with 15 saves. Utah outshot Chicago 32-15, and Anders Lee marked his first game for the Mammoth with a goal. Michael Carcone contributed a goal and an assist; Clayton Keller set up two goals.
Guenther broke the scoreless tie at 16:41 of the first period after a pass from Logan Cooley. Carcone doubled the lead at 17:21, with Kevin Stenlund supplying the assist.
Three more Utah goals followed in the second period. Nick Schmaltz converted a rebound at 9:47, Lee scored on a tip at 13:06 and Guenther redirected Keller’s pass on the power play at 15:28.
Daniil But completed the scoring at 12:50 of the third, tipping a Carcone shot. Arvid Soderblom made 26 saves for Chicago, which fell to 0-2-0.
