Golden Knights sign Karlsson to two-year, $13.5 million extension
The deal begins in 2027-28 and carries a $6.75 million annual cap hit, keeping the centre in Vegas through 2028-29.
The Vegas Golden Knights announced a two-year extension for William Karlsson on Wednesday, Sept. 30, keeping the centre under contract through 2028-29. The agreement totals $13.5 million, with a $6.75 million average annual value, and takes effect in 2027-28.
Karlsson, 33, has one season remaining on the eight-year contract he signed June 24, 2019. That agreement was worth $47.2 million, or $5.9 million per season. Without the extension, he would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer.
An injury-shortened 2025-26 regular season left Karlsson with four goals and three assists in 14 games. He returned for the playoffs and contributed three goals and six assists in 15 appearances. Vegas advanced to the Stanley Cup Final before Carolina won the series in six games.
Karlsson joined Vegas in the 2017 expansion draft. His 165 goals and 403 points rank second in club history, while his 570 regular-season appearances and 238 assists rank third. He leads the franchise with 15 shorthanded goals and 26 shorthanded points. In the playoffs, he ranks second in games played (121) and third in goals (34) and points (80).
During the Golden Knights' 2023 championship run, Karlsson played all 22 games and produced 11 goals and six assists.
Anaheim drafted him 53rd overall in the second round in 2011. Across his NHL career with Anaheim, Columbus and Vegas, Karlsson has accumulated 183 goals and 270 assists for 453 points in 753 regular-season games. His postseason totals are 36 goals and 47 assists for 83 points in 126 games.
