Frost pick Viivi Vainikka scores five goals in first three MoDo games
The Minnesota draft pick has seven points in three SDHL games while playing on a short-term MoDo contract.
Minnesota Frost draft pick Viivi Vainikka scored five goals and added two assists in MoDo's first three games of the 2026-27 SDHL season. Her most recent pair came in a 4-1 win over Frölunda on Sept. 19. Mira Hallin assisted on both second-period goals, according to the league's match report.
Vainikka opened the season with a goal and an assist in MoDo's 4-2 loss to Brynäs on Sept. 11. Six days later, she had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Luleå. The three official game reports account for all five goals and seven points.
Minnesota selected the Finnish forward 21st overall in the second round of the 2026 PWHL Draft. She played for Brynäs last season before signing a short-term deal with MoDo. The Swedish club said the agreement covers seven regular-season games in September and October, with a plan for Vainikka to move to North America after the women's world championship in November. The Frost drafted her, but MoDo's announcement did not say she had signed a PWHL contract.
