Fowler stops 30 as Canadiens edge Red Wings in shootout
Zachary Bolduc scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give Montreal a 1-0 win after a night of disallowed goals at Bell Centre.
Jacob Fowler turned aside all 30 Detroit shots, and Zachary Bolduc supplied the only shootout goal in the Montreal Canadiens' 1-0 victory over the Red Wings at Bell Centre on Saturday.
Bolduc beat Daniil Tarasov between the pads in the sixth round. Fowler stopped Nate Danielson on the next attempt to secure the win. Tarasov also finished regulation and overtime with 30 saves in his first Detroit start.
Montreal had three potential goals overturned. A first-period video review found that Cole Caufield's shot had not crossed the line. Bolduc's second-period effort was disallowed for Jake Evans' interference with Tarasov, and Alexandre Texier's overtime goal was erased because Bolduc had been offside.
Fowler denied Andrew Copp on a third-period breakaway, extending his left pad to stop a backhand. The Canadiens failed to score on four power plays.
The win ended Montreal's three-game losing streak and lifted its record to 2-2-1. Detroit fell to 1-3-1.
