Flyers lock up Trevor Zegras with four-year, $36.5 million extension

The Flyers signed Trevor Zegras to a four-year, $36.5 million contract extension on Wednesday night, making the center the highest-paid player on the roster. The deal carries an average annual value of $9.125 million and runs through the 2029-30 season, according to inquirer.com and sportsnet.ca.
Zegras became a restricted free agent on July 1 and filed for salary arbitration on July 5. The extension avoids an arbitration hearing that had been scheduled for next Wednesday. Years three and four of the contract include a limited no-trade clause, and Zegras will become an unrestricted free agent when the deal expires in 2030, per inquirer.com.

The 25-year-old posted career highs last season with 26 goals and 67 points in 81 games, his first year in Philadelphia after being acquired from Anaheim in June 2025. He ranked second on the team in points and third in goals, per inquirer.com. Zegras added six points in 10 playoff games before the Flyers were eliminated in the second round.
The extension comes two weeks after Philadelphia tendered a five-year, $90 million offer sheet to Leo Carlsson that Anaheim matched, a move that reset the market for young forwards.
