Flames keep Othmann, leave Suniev off opening roster

Brennan Othmann is on the Calgary Flames' 2026-27 opening roster, while Aydar Suniev is not listed among the club's 23 players, according to the roster Calgary announced Monday.
Suniev led the Flames with four pre-season goals, Sportsnet reported. General manager Craig Conroy told the outlet that the final forward spot came down to Suniev and Othmann. Othmann would have needed to clear waivers to be sent down; Suniev did not. Conroy said Suniev could return soon as the club continues to assess its young players.
The Flames also listed Jonathan Huberdeau on injured reserve and Sam Honzek among their 13 forwards. Calgary opens its season at home against Seattle on Thursday, Oct. 1, the team said.
