Flames cut camp to 27, assign Basha and Brzustewicz to Wranglers
Calgary sent seven players directly to its AHL affiliate, placed eight on waivers and returned one to junior.
The Calgary Flames reduced their training camp to 27 players Friday, assigning seven to the AHL's Calgary Wranglers and placing eight more on waivers for possible assignment to the same club.
Forward Andrew Basha and defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz were among those sent directly to the Wranglers. Calgary also assigned goaltender Arsenii Sergeev, defenceman Axel Hurtig and forwards Tyson Gross, Will Dineen and Jonathan Castagna.
The waiver group includes forwards William Stromgren, Sam Morton, Rory Kerins, Ben Jones and Dryden Hunt, along with defencemen Jake Livingstone, Andreas Englund and Michael Benning. Each remains eligible to be claimed by another NHL team before an AHL move is completed.
Calgary returned forward Chase Harrington to the WHL's Spokane Chiefs. The Flames said they have 16 forwards, eight defencemen and three goaltenders remaining at camp.
