Empey Settles In As Veteran Voice At Moose Camp

Tyson Empey is back for a third season with the Manitoba Moose and has become a resource for the new faces at training camp.

The Swift Current, Saskatchewan native worked his way from U18 AA hockey in Swift Current to U18 AAA in Battlefords, the SJHL, NCAA Division III at SUNY Geneseo, the ECHL and the AHL.

"I've been that guy on two-way deals, on tryout deals, everything like that. I've been through it all," Empey said after practice. "I like being able to talk to those guys and see their story in how they got here, try to relate to them and give them as much advice as I can about what I've been through."

Empey and his wife welcomed a child in May. He said re-signing early in the offseason gave the family more certainty and let him be home for the birth and the first days with their new baby.

"It's been awesome knowing where we are going to be a little sooner than other years," Empey said. "Nice to be back and have some familiarity. I have my family in Saskatchewan, so they were able to help us move and help with the kids."

"Being able to be there for my wife for the birth and be there for all those first days. Being able to get used to being a new dad was really exciting."

The Moose held their third day of camp Wednesday at Hockey For All Centre, with the on-ice session open to the public. Manitoba's regular season opens at home against the Chicago Wolves on Oct. 3, with the teams meeting again Oct. 4, according to the club's 2026-27 schedule.
