Devils activate Kovacevic, but return to lineup will wait

New Jersey removes the defenceman from injured reserve after a knee injury kept him out of camp and the start of the season.

The New Jersey Devils activated Johnathan Kovacevic from injured reserve on Saturday, Oct. 10, while keeping him out of that afternoon's game against Vancouver.

The defenceman had missed training camp, the preseason and the opening of the regular season because of a knee injury, the club said.

Coach Sheldon Keefe said Kovacevic was nearing a return to game action. With New Jersey's schedule about to become busier, Keefe expected to use him in the lineup soon.

The activation restores Kovacevic to the active roster without setting a date for his first appearance of the season.
