Braeden Cootes scored his first AHL goal for the Abbotsford Canucks in a 4-2 loss to the Calgary Wranglers at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Vancouver prospect struck at 16:16 of the third period, cutting Calgary’s lead to 3-2. Bennett Schimek and Ilya Safonov assisted on the even-strength goal. Calgary added an empty-net goal at 19:37 to secure the win.

It was Cootes’ second AHL game. He made his debut in Friday’s season opener against Calgary, another 4-2 loss, and finished his first two games with one goal and nine shots.

Abbotsford had taken a first-period lead through Ty Mueller on Saturday before Calgary scored three unanswered goals. Cootes’ late goal brought the Canucks within one, but they could not find an equalizer.
