Connor Zary said he was frustrated by his return to the AHL after practising with the Calgary Wranglers on Wednesday morning, but intended to respond through his play.

"It sucks and it hurts, definitely at the start, and then you've just kind of got to put your head down and go to work," Zary told the Calgary Herald.

The Calgary Flames announced his assignment to the Wranglers alongside defenceman Brayden Pachal on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Zary turned 25 on Sept. 25.

Zary told the Herald he wanted to contribute on the ice and be a good teammate in Calgary. He acknowledged his anger over the assignment while saying that dwelling on it would not help him.

"I think it's something you take with a grain of salt and you work and you try to just prove people wrong," he said.
