Clay Stevenson could make Jets debut in Pittsburgh
Clay Stevenson could get the start as Winnipeg visits Pittsburgh on Monday, the second night of a back-to-back.
Clay Stevenson could make his Winnipeg Jets debut Monday, Oct. 5, in Pittsburgh, and it would come in the same building where he played his first NHL game.
Coach Scott Arniel indicated Saturday that the back-to-back in Detroit and Pittsburgh would likely use two goaltenders. Stuart Skinner stopped 33 of 35 shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Wings, so the Penguins game is the logical spot for Stevenson.
Stevenson, 27, debuted in the NHL on April 17, 2025, in Pittsburgh. He has five NHL games, all with the Washington Capitals, with three wins and a .906 save percentage. The Jets claimed him off waivers on September 28.
"There is some comfortability in that building, so if it works out that way, it's always a great challenge to play against (Sidney) Crosby and (Evgeni) Malkin and those guys," Stevenson said.
The Jets (1-0-1) arrived in Pittsburgh after their first road win of the season. They went three-for-four on the power play against Detroit and have four power-play goals on seven chances through two games.
"I think we're just being direct with it," said Cole Perfetti, who had the first of the three power-play goals against Detroit. "We attacked, we recovered, made one play, attacked again."
Arniel also hinted at changes among the skaters, with Winnipeg playing five games in the first eight days of the season. The morning skate should show what he has in mind.
Pittsburgh is 2-0-0, with a 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers and a 6-5 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens for 13 goals in two games.
"Their transition game is real strong," Arniel said. "They transition really well, and they play fast."
