The Washington Capitals open a four-game preseason schedule against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Sunday, Sept. 20. The clubs will meet again Friday in Washington. The Capitals also face Philadelphia in Hershey on Monday and in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Washington plans to dress six players from its projected top 12 forwards and four of its projected top six defensemen, according to the team’s Saturday preview. Jonny Brodzinski, Josh Dunne, Ivan Miroshnichenko and Bogdan Trineyev are among the forwards making the trip. Veteran defensemen Dylan McIlrath and Justin Holl are also expected to play as the team evaluates candidates for three extra roster places.

Miroshnichenko has skated with Brodzinski and Ethen Frank in the first three days of camp. Coach Spencer Carbery praised his work Friday but said the winger would have to compete with established NHL players for an opening-night place. Lynden Lakovic, a Washington first-round selection in the 2025 draft, is expected to get preseason time as well.

The shortened camp lasts 13 days. Washington must submit its opening-night roster by 5 p.m. ET on Sept. 28, before beginning the regular season Oct. 2 at Carolina.
