Brown’s Third-Period Goal Gives Devils 2-1 Preseason Win
Ryan Schmelzer and Cole Eiserman traded second-period goals before Connor Brown decided New Jersey’s opener against the Islanders.
Connor Brown scored in the third period to give the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 preseason win over the New York Islanders on Sunday at Prudential Center. Brown took the puck from Islanders defenseman Marshall Warren near the blue line, skated in alone and beat goaltender Vitek Vanecek with a wrist shot, according to the Devils' game report.
Cole Eiserman had put New York ahead on a second-period power play. Ryan Schmelzer, captain of the Utica Comets, answered for New Jersey later in the period to make it 1-1.
The Devils said most of their lineup was slated to play in the AHL this season. New Jersey killed four Islanders power plays in a first period in which it took six penalties.
