Brisebois makes Canucks opening roster after injury setbacks
Vancouver names the defenceman to its 2026-27 opening group after hip surgery and a concussion disrupted his path to an NHL roster spot.
Guillaume Brisebois is on the Vancouver Canucks' 2026-27 opening roster, the club announced Monday. Sportsnet reports it is the first time he will begin an NHL season with Vancouver, 11 years after the team drafted him.
The defenceman missed most of last season following hip surgery and appeared in nine minor-league games, according to Sportsnet. A concussion had disrupted the previous two seasons, including a 2023 training camp when he had been told he would make Vancouver's NHL team.
“I still believe I can be that guy, but I need to be healthy first,” Brisebois told Sportsnet last week. Vancouver lists him among eight defencemen on its opening roster.
