Bouchard scores twice as Oilers rally past Ducks 5-2
Devon Levi makes 29 saves and Leon Draisaitl has four assists as Edmonton hands Anaheim its first loss of the season.
Evan Bouchard scored twice and added an assist as the Edmonton Oilers rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 at Honda Center on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Devon Levi made 29 saves, Connor McDavid finished with a goal and two assists, and Leon Draisaitl had four assists. Edmonton improved to 3-0-1, while Anaheim took its first loss of the season and fell to 2-1-0.
After Beckett Sennecke gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead with two power-play goals, the Oilers scored five times in the second period. Bouchard opened their scoring 11 seconds into the frame and later supplied the go-ahead goal. Kasperi Kapanen, Vasily Podkolzin and McDavid also scored.
Anaheim outshot Edmonton 31-19, but Levi stopped all 19 even-strength shots he faced. The Ducks converted their first two power plays; Edmonton killed off the remaining five, including a late advantage with Anaheim's net empty. Ville Husso replaced Lukas Dostal for the third period and stopped both shots he faced.
Oilers coach Mike Babcock told Sportsnet that his players needed to compete harder after the opening period. He credited their response, Levi's goaltending and the penalty kill for the turnaround.
Draisaitl told Sportsnet that Edmonton had struggled with Anaheim's speed early but pushed back with a better approach. Ducks coach Joel Quenneville said his team had spent too much time watching the play and needed to respond to the setback.
