Boqvist set for Devils return against Mammoth
New Jersey practised with Jesper Boqvist on its fourth line Monday as Sheldon Keefe prepares for Utah’s speed.
Jesper Boqvist is expected to return to the New Jersey Devils' lineup against the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday, Oct. 6, after practising on the fourth line Monday with Cody Glass and Amadeus Lombardi. He would be playing his first game for New Jersey since the club reacquired him.
Stefan Noesen occupied that position during the Devils' first two games. Coach Sheldon Keefe said the planned switch would add speed against Utah, and that Boqvist had earned an opportunity through his work and patience during camp.
Keefe also pointed to Boqvist's puck-carrying ability as a useful addition while Connor Brown is unavailable. Brown, who missed the first two games with a lower-body injury, skated Monday. Keefe said the Devils do not expect him back this week.
Defenceman Johnathan Kovacevic, on injured reserve with a knee injury, completed the full practice. Keefe said the club was increasing his workload and would reassess his progress at the end of the week.
