Blues use mirrors and the Mississippi for new home opener video
The fourth instalment of St. Louis' Rhythm & Blues opening series debuts Oct. 8 before the home opener against the San Jose Sharks.
The St. Louis Blues are building their newest pre-game opening around mirrors, a Doobie Brothers song and the Mississippi River.
The fourth instalment of the club's Rhythm & Blues opening video series will debut before the Oct. 8 home opener against the San Jose Sharks at Enterprise Center. This year's version uses mirrored panels, St. Louis arches and the ice itself to put several players in the frame at once.
Anna Goff, senior director of Blue Note Entertainment and Events, said the creative team wanted to look beyond music for inspiration this time. She found it in "Love," a 2025 one-shot music video by the American rock band OK Go, filmed in a European train station and built on mirror reflections.
"We've always kind of done the 'you put one player on the set, you film that one player and then they leave,' but this team is so much more than one player," Goff said.
The soundtrack is a remix of "Black Water" by The Doobie Brothers; Goff said the Mississippi River theme connects the music to St. Louis.
The remix comes from 2WEI, the German composing team behind the Blues' cinematic opening tracks for the past few seasons. The club also brought back Cincinnati-based production company 4th Floor Creative to help render the concepts.
Goff called St. Louis a "homegrown city" and said the video was made with local fans in mind.
"I think anybody from St. Louis should feel immense pride in this video," she said. "They should see the arches and they should know this video is for them. And if you're not from St. Louis, you should see the darker tones and the grit of Mississippi and wish you were from St. Louis and wish you had that kind of grit to you."
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 to catch the debut.
