Blues goal disallowed after Dallas challenge for offside in third period
Video review found Pavel Buchnevich entered the zone ahead of the puck before Adam Jiricek's goal, and the Situation Room wiped it out.
A Blues goal early in the third period in Dallas did not count. A coach's challenge showed Pavel Buchnevich was offside before Adam Jiricek scored, and the goal was disallowed.
The goal had been scored at 1:06 of the third. On review, the NHL Situation Room determined that Buchnevich preceded the puck into the offensive zone and was in an offside position before the goal. The play was challenged under Rule 38.
Rule 38.9 sets the standard for a goal call on the ice: the goal is overturned if one or more players on the attacking team preceded the puck into the attacking zone before the goal and the play should have been stopped for offside. Under Rule 38.1, the original call stands unless video makes a "conclusive and irrefutable determination" that it was clearly incorrect.
The clock was reset to 19:02 (0:58 elapsed), the moment the offside infraction occurred.
