Blue Jackets sign Carson Soucy to one-year, $1.15 million contract
Columbus turned the veteran defenceman’s training-camp tryout into a deal ahead of Thursday’s opener against Buffalo.
The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenceman Carson Soucy to a one-year, $1.15 million contract Tuesday, club president of hockey operations and general manager Don Waddell announced. Soucy had joined Columbus on a professional tryout Sept. 13.
“Carson has had an excellent camp and has earned this opportunity,” Waddell said in the club's announcement. He said Soucy would add size and an experienced presence to the defence.
Soucy, 32, recorded 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 76 games split between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders last season. He has 99 points (32 goals, 67 assists) in 441 NHL regular-season games.
Columbus opens its season Thursday against Buffalo at Nationwide Arena.
