Bedard returns to contact practice with Tuesday comeback possible
Chicago’s captain joined every drill Sunday, but his first game after shoulder surgery still depends on a medical assessment.
Connor Bedard took contact in Chicago Blackhawks practice Sunday for the first time this season, moving closer to his return after offseason left shoulder surgery.
A comeback against Pittsburgh at United Center on Tuesday remains possible. Coach Jeff Blashill said he would not commit to a date before learning more from Bedard's upcoming doctor's appointment. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
Bedard wore a regular red jersey and joined every drill after skating in a black non-contact jersey earlier in the week. He worked at centre between Roman Kantserov and Patrick Kane.
The 21-year-old said he felt good in the contact work and would be able to take faceoffs when he returns. He injured his left shoulder during a July 2 training session in Vancouver and underwent surgery a few days later.
Chicago has started the season 1-5-0. Blashill said getting Bedard back would make a substantial difference for a team with young players at centre and on defence.
