Bears Hall of Fame Names Arsene, Johnston, Matte and Black

Hershey will induct three former players and its longtime team physician on Hall of Fame Night, Dec. 5 at GIANT Center.

The Hershey Bears have chosen Dean Arsene, Jay Johnston, Christian Matte and Dr. Kevin Black for their club Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026. The team announced the selections on Oct. 13.

Hershey will hold the induction ceremony at GIANT Center before its Dec. 5 game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Arsene, Johnston and Matte will enter as players. Arsene spent six seasons with Hershey from 2003 to 2009 and served as co-captain for two seasons. Johnston played for the Bears from 1979 to 1984 and became captain for his final season.

Matte played four seasons in Hershey after arriving in 1996-97. He led the Bears in goals and points in each of his final three seasons.

Black will be inducted in the general category. He was the Bears’ physician from 1993 to 2025 and cared for more than 700 players during that period.
