The Colorado Avalanche signed center Georgii Merkulov to a one-year, two-way contract on July 20, the team announced.
The move comes as part of a busy offseason for Colorado, which has also added forward Jaden Schwartz on a three-year deal, defenseman Noah Juulsen on a two-year contract, and forward Adam Beckman on a two-year deal. The Avalanche also brought in defenseman Christian Wolanin on a one-year, two-way contract earlier this month.
Merkulov's signing gives Colorado another forward option as the team builds its roster for the 2026-27 season. The one-year term suggests the Avalanche are bringing him in on a prove-it deal, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Colorado has been active in free agency after the start of the signing period, addressing both forward and defensive depth. Schwartz, a veteran winger, represents the most significant addition on a three-year commitment. Juulsen adds an option on the blue line, while Beckman provides another forward piece on a two-year deal.
The Avalanche's recent transactions show a focus on adding depth across the lineup while keeping most commitments short. Merkulov becomes the latest piece in that approach.
