Andrei Kuzmenko takes leave after father's death, Penguins say
The Pittsburgh forward practiced Thursday before traveling to Moscow to be with his family, according to general manager Kyle Dubas.
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Andrei Kuzmenko has taken a leave of absence following the death of his father, Alexander, the team said Thursday.
General manager Kyle Dubas said Kuzmenko practiced with his teammates Thursday morning before traveling to Moscow to be with his family. Dubas offered condolences on behalf of the organization, asked that the family's privacy be respected and said the Penguins would support Kuzmenko during his absence.
Kuzmenko, 30, signed a one-year, $5 million contract with Pittsburgh on July 1. The Penguins are his fifth NHL team after stints with Vancouver, Calgary, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. He has 85 goals and 182 points in 271 NHL regular-season games, according to the team's signing announcement.
