Alriksson Eyes Growth in Second AHL Season With Abbotsford
After 43 AHL games last season, the Canucks prospect says summer skating work has left him more confident.
Vilmer Alriksson says he is approaching his second AHL season with more confidence after an offseason focused on skating and strength. In an interview published by the Vancouver Canucks on Sept. 23, the 21-year-old forward described the progress he felt at his fourth training camp with the NHL club.
Alriksson played 43 AHL games for Abbotsford last season. He said that first full professional campaign helped him identify the skills he needs to improve. This summer, he worked with skating and skills coaches on his balance, explosiveness and stride power. He also trained with a group that included William Nylander, David Pastrnak and Mika Zibanejad.
The 6-foot-6, 234-pound winger told the Canucks he is still learning to use his size effectively against professional opponents. This year's Vancouver camp felt more comfortable than his earlier ones, he said, and he described an improvement in how his body moves on the ice.
Alriksson has not set a statistical target for 2026-27. He said his focus is on daily practice and gym work as he tries to turn that preparation into a larger impact for Abbotsford.
