AHL Names Smart Recovery Technologies Its Official Recovery Partner
The league's multi-year deal gives all 32 AHL clubs access to wearable light and compression therapy devices.
The American Hockey League has named Smart Recovery Technologies its Official Recovery Partner in a multi-year deal announced Thursday.
The Doylestown, Pa. company builds medical devices aimed at recovery: wearable red and infrared light therapy, portable compression therapy and related tools meant to cut pain and inflammation and speed soft tissue healing. Under the agreement, AHL organizations get access to that portfolio, and the company will work with clubs' athletic training and medical staffs.
"We are very excited to be the recovery partner with the AHL and have enjoyed years of supporting the professional athletes in the AHL and other pro leagues and colleges with our medical device solutions," said co-founder James Molinaro.
Dave Franklin, the company's director of sports medicine, framed the deal around the people in the training room rather than the marketing value. "The AHL is home to many of the world's top developing hockey players, and we're honored to support the athletic trainers and medical staff who work tirelessly to keep these athletes healthy throughout the season," he said.
The league says the partnership will also involve raising awareness of evidence-based recovery technology across its member clubs.
The AHL, in operation since 1936, is currently marking its 90th anniversary season and remains the primary development league for all 32 NHL organizations. Per the league, nearly 90 percent of today's NHL players are AHL graduates.
No financial terms were disclosed.
