Oliver Wahlstrom Signs One-Year Deal With Djurgarden
The former 11th overall pick is moving to the SHL after scoring 42 points for the AHL's San Jose Barracuda last season.
Oliver Wahlstrom is moving to Sweden after signing a one-year contract with Djurgarden of the SHL.
Djurgarden announced the deal Tuesday and said the 26-year-old winger is expected to play in one of the club's top two lines and contribute on the power play.
Wahlstrom spent last season with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, recording 24 goals and 18 assists in 62 games on a minor-league contract. He qualified as an AHL veteran through that playing time, a designation that can narrow a player's market because teams may dress only six veterans per game.
The New York Islanders selected Wahlstrom 11th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. His best NHL season came in 2021-22, when he had 13 goals and 24 points in 73 games.
Wahlstrom last played in the NHL in 2024-25 after the Boston Bruins claimed him off waivers. He has 37 goals and 36 assists in 236 NHL games across parts of six seasons.
Djurgarden sporting director Marcus Due-Boje described Wahlstrom as a skilled, dangerous offensive forward who adds size, a right-handed shot and another power-play option.
Wahlstrom, who has Swedish citizenship through his father and has spent time training in Stockholm, said he was excited to join the club. The contract runs through the 2026-27 season.
