ST. LOUIS - Doug Armstrong, fired as the Dallas Stars general manager in November, was hired by the St. Louis Blues as their GM-in-waiting on Thursday.
The 43-year-old Armstrong was selected the vice president of player personnel and will become general manager in 2010. The Blues extended the contract of current GM Larry Pleau, whose wife is battling cancer, through 2009-10.

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues on Tuesday signed a pair of first-round picks from recent drafts, forwards T.J. Oshie and Lars Eller.
Oshie, 21, was the 24th overall selection of the 2005 draft. He had delayed signing while helping North Dakota reach three consecutive NCAA Frozen Fours, including the 2007 tournament in St. Louis. Eller, 19, was the 13th pick of the 2007 draft.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Keith Tkachuk took the shot from beyond centre ice toward an empty net. One "lucky bounce" later, his entire team was swarming him.
Tkachuk became the 41st player in NHL history to score 500 goals, and added an assist to help the St. Louis Blues beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Sunday in the season finale for both teams.

ST. LOUIS - With the game already well in hand, the St. Louis Blues turned their attention to helping Keith Tkachuk reach a milestone.
Tkachuk scored the 498th and 499th goals of his career in the Blues' 3-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, and coach Andy Murray left him out on the ice late in the game so the veteran could try for No. 500 in the team's final home game.
