Daniel Briere sidelined by shoulder injury

136 days 5 hours 54 minutes ago.

PHILADELPHIA - Daniel Briere sat out Philadelphia's game against Buffalo on Tuesday night with a shoulder injury.

Briere sprained his right shoulder in the Flyers' shootout loss at the New York Rangers on Sunday. The star centre hadn't missed a game since the Flyers lured him away from the Sabres with an eight-year, $52 million contract last summer.

"I feel disappointed because the last four, five, six games, things were starting to turn around," Briere said. "The last three games, I liked the way our line was playing. Chemistry was just starting to set in with Vinny Prospal. It's been a good complement to our line. Right now, I don't know how long it's going to be. I'm hoping it's short and I can get back in there and help the team again."

The injury-depleted Flyers already were without All-Star Mike Richards (hamstring) and two-time 40-goal scorer Simon Gagne (concussion).

Philadelphia entered with a three-point lead over Buffalo for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
