ANTIGONISH, N.S. - The Antigonish Bulldogs of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League have been sold and will play next season out of Halifax.

Formed in 1967, the Bulldogs had fallen on hard financial times in recent years. The league has approved the team's sale to a group from Halifax led by John Keizer and former league president Eric Thompson.

KITCHENER, Ont. - It's already been a banner hockey season for a handful of players vying for the Memorial Cup this week.

Five members of the Canadian team that won a fourth straight gold medal at the world junior championship earlier this year are attempting to join a select group who have won both world junior gold and a Memorial Cup in the same season.

KITCHENER, Ont. - The recovery of Belleville Bulls forward Shawn Matthias should be cause for concern for the other three teams at the Memorial Cup.

Matthias had the go-ahead goal and also scored short-handed in the Bulls' 6-3 win over the Gatineau Olympiques on Monday at the Canadian Hockey League championship.

Japanese hockey player Takuma Kawai makes his way to the Memorial Cup

Gatineau Olympiques defenceman Takuma Kawai may be a Japanese hockey player, but he's sporting a very Canadian gap in his front teeth.

Kawai moved away from his home and family in Eniwa, Japan, at 15 to pursue his dream of playing hockey in Canada.

Spokane Chiefs edge host Kitchener Rangers at Memorial Cup

KITCHENER, Ont. - The Spokane Chiefs were at their suffocating best in a 2-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers at the Memorial Cup on Sunday.

The Western Hockey League champions' calling card is taking away time and space from the opposition and they executed that style much better than in the previous night's 5-4 overtime win over the Belleville Bulls.
