Penguins forward Gary Roberts to sit out opener against Rangers

PITTSBURGH - Penguins forward Gary Roberts will sit out Friday night's second-round playoff game against the New York Rangers with a groin injury.

The same problem forced the 41-year-old Roberts to miss the final two games of Pittsburgh's first-round sweep of Ottawa. Roberts scored two goals in the first game of that series.

PITTSBURGH - The conspiracy theorists in Ottawa believe the Pittsburgh Penguins purposely lost last Sunday's regular-season finale to Philadelphia in order to avoid the Flyers in the first round and instead draw the Senators.

"You can be sure that I wasn't trying to tank the game the other day," veteran Penguins winger Gary Roberts said with a laugh Wednesday.
