SUNRISE, Fla. - The Florida Panthers agreed to terms on a two-year contract with tough guy Wade Belak on Monday.
The veteran winger was acquired by Florida from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 26 for a fifth-round pick in next month's NHL entry draft. The Saskatoon native was held without a point in 17 games with the Panthers, but registered 12 penalty minutes.

Martin, who was stripped of his coaching duties last week, said Tuesday he will accept the offer team owner Alan Cohen made to remain with the Panthers and focus on front office duties.

WASHINGTON - Long before the final horn sounded, the sea of red-clad fans turned the arena into an earsplitting din of cheers for their team, "M-V-P!" chants for Alex Ovechkin, a chorus of "Bruuuuuuce" for their coach. Even "Hip, hip, Hu-et!" for the goaltender.
The owner responded by blowing a kiss to the crowd. After three painful, rebuilding seasons of consecutive last-place finishes, the Washington Capitals had a lot of pent-up celebrating to do.

RALEIGH, N.C. - The stage was set for the Carolina Hurricanes to cruise back into the playoffs. They were playing their regular-season finale in front of a rowdy bunch of Caniacs, needed a victory against a Florida team that hadn't won in Raleigh in more than five-plus years and even jumped out to an early lead.
Then the Panthers came back with a vengeance. And when Carolina couldn't conjure up yet another third-period rally against them, its best chance to return to the post-season was dashed.
