EDMONTON - A disciplinary hearing has cleared an Edmonton police officer of using excessive force on a woman during a potential riot following a June 2006 NHL Oilers playoff game.
Const. Shane Connor, 28, had faced charges of discreditable conduct for striking Kristin Wilson and for swearing at her. The hearing's presiding officer, Ian Atkins, says Connor did not violate Edmonton police policy when he head-stunned Wilson to get her under control.

EDMONTON - Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe further solidified his defence corps Monday by signing Denis Grebeshkov to a one-year contract.
The 24-year-old Russian had three goals and 15 assists in his first year with the Oilers. He was fourth on the club in plus/minus at +2 and averaged 16 minutes 52 seconds of ice time per game.

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers signed right-winger Robert Nilsson to a three-year contract Saturday.
Nilsson set career highs in 2007-08 with 10 goals and 31 assists in 71 games. He finished sixth on the Oilers in scoring.
The agreement comes a day after defenceman Tom Gilbert signed a US$24-million, six-year deal.

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers signed Tom Gilbert to a US$24-million, six-year contract Friday that will keep the 25-year-old defenceman with the team through the 2013-14 season.
Gilbert, a six-foot-three, 210-pound native of Bloomington, Minn., played all 82 games this season.

EDMONTON - After rocking the boat a year ago with offer sheets to restricted free agents Thomas Vanek and Dustin Penner, Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe sees smoother sailing ahead this off-season.
In an attempt to rebuild the Oilers, Lowe had NHL waters churning with a failed US$50-million bid to land Vanek from Buffalo before plucking Penner out of Anaheim with a $21.25-million offer sheet - an amount the Ducks chose not to match.
