DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche want to play a faster, more attacking brand of hockey, similar to the style that brought them two Stanley Cup titles.
Now, they're looking for a coach who fits that description. Joel Quenneville and the Avalanche mutually decided to end their relationship Friday, a week after Colorado was swept out of the playoffs by the Detroit Red Wings.

DENVER - The Reunion Tour didn't go exactly as planned for the Colorado Avalanche.
Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote rejoined Colorado captain Joe Sakic in Denver for the second half of the season and helped the Avalanche return to the playoffs after a one-year absence.

DENVER - Johan Franzen's second hat trick in three games fuelled the Detroit Red Wings' 8-2 rout Thursday night that completed a sweep of the injury-riddled Colorado Avalanche.
Franzen's nine goals in this series matched Colorado's total. In his first taste of the bitter rivalry, Franzen was simply too dominant to experience the bad blood that usually boils this time of year between the teams.

DENVER - The ailing Colorado Avalanche will be without centre Peter Forsberg and forward Ryan Smyth for Game 4 against the Detroit Red Wings.
Forsberg, who's dealing with a balky ankle and a strained groin, missed the first two games of the series before returning for Game 3. Smyth missed Game 3 with a foot injury. Colorado coach Joel Quenneville said he would play seven defencemen and 11 forwards Thursday night instead of the usual 6-12 setup.

DENVER - The fiery rivalry has fizzled.
Usually a hotly contested, physical tussle, the Colorado-Detroit series hasn't lived up to its past.
Then again, the Red Wings have thoroughly dominated the series, leading 3-0 heading into Game 4 on Thursday night at the Pepsi Center. None of the five previous playoff series between the two rivals has ended in a sweep.
