Roberto Luongo is the most valuable asset for Vancouver, and the new G.M. to replace Dave Nonis will need to build a stronger offense around the All-Star goaltender. (CP Images)
They know what you did last summer, Roberto Luongo.
And a few of them aren't happy about it.
Note, I stress a few. They'll get over. Buffoons always do.
Most Vancouver Canucks fans - at least the rational ones - can understand Luongo flying home to Florida to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. Lucky kid, I might add, being born into those bloodlines. Cat-like reflexes and Rico Suave hair. That young ‘un is going to be a heartbreaker.
Should his mates mail in a couple more clunkers like they have this week, Luongo should have plenty of time to bounce that newborn on his knee because he sure as heck won't need to make any post-season travel plans.
So while Luongo is about to be subjected to the joy of sleepless nights and dirty diapers the rest of us common folk must deal with, it seems a small minority of the Whale supporter aren't exactly enamored with the timing of Luongo's, um, rather productive roll in the sheets.
Others reckon Bobby Lu was hurting the Canucks when his mind was elsewhere and should've just gone home earlier.
Roberto Luongo bringing the Canucks down. See, kids, this is what we call a paradox.
These few geniuses figure Luongo should have aimed for a July or August delivery. Now, Luongo may be a lot of things, but I'm guessing he hasn't quite completed his obstetrician course.
Granted, my math skills aren't what you would consider exceptional, but counting back nine months from July makes it October-ish on my calculator and, unless I am mistaken, training camp is just winding up and the regular season is beginning. Tough to find a couple of minutes -and for Mrs. Luongo's sake, I hope that isn't the literal sense - to get all snuggly with the missus. Not with two-a-days and peeing in a bottle taking up most of your day.
Nothing is more important than the birth of your first child. No, not even a playoff race.
While he is down at that hospital, Luongo may as well get his back checked out.
It has to be ready to give out after carrying the Canucks all season.
