Stars surprise Wings but not much changes

Call it what you want - The Booty Call, Butt-Strom or A hole in the rules - but the waved-off Wings' goal last night should not be looked at as costing the Wings a series sweep of the Dallas Stars.  Sure the goal would have given the Wings a 1-0 lead in the game, sure Dallas would have had to chase the Wings again - but the Stars were not going down without a fight.

Big contracts undermine salary cap

Is it just me or are NHL teams starting to throw pre-lockout money at undeserving players?

I've seen some whopper deals come across the wire the last week or so. And the size and length of the contract extensions being handed to veterans on the downhill side of their career or unproven youngsters is starting to worry me.

If the sheer thought of the Stanley Cup being awarded to another colorless hockey outpost is keeping you awake at night, be prepared to lose a little more sleep. As much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, the Carolina Hurricanes are back.

Now with no offense intended to those fine bumpkins down on Tobacco Road, seeing hockey's grail in Carolina is like, well, seeing Jeff Gordon claim the Nextel Cup in Saskatoon. Try as you might, it just doesn't fit.
