Leafs head coach Paul Maurice might face the daily grind of dealing with the Toronto media but he's got nothing on Larry Mavety.
Has somebody started a website dedicated to getting Maurice fired? I don't want to give anybody ideas, but I don't think so. Not yet, anyway.
The same can't be said for Mavety, the Kingston Frontenacs' GM and acting coach.
Apparently three passionate fans of the floundering Ontario Hockey League team was perturbed to the point that he started a site that points out all of Mavety's past and present foibles. It can be found at firelarrymavety.wordpress.com.
(There's plenty for the site host to blog about. Mavety, the third winningest coach in OHL history, is in his 11th season with the Fronts and 27th in the league.)
The hope is that owner Doug Springer will catch wind of the site, suddenly come to his senses and send Mavety packing. That's my best guess, anyway.
Old school (Mavety), meet new school (cyberspace).
It might be funny to most of us, myself included, but it shows the level of frustration some fans have with the team they support.
Putting together a blog site isn't exactly a ground-breaking way for disgruntled fans to showing their displeasure with a manager or coach. But it has its merits.
FireMillen.com, a site established two years ago that continues to call for the axing of Matt Millen as Detroit Lions GM, is still going strong. It's even become a commercial endeavor, selling shirts that say "Save The Lions."
I'm sure there are others, especially since websites are easier to come by than a hamburger at McDonald's. Any frustrated fan with a finger on a mouse can cut loose these days.
Maple Leafs' defenceman Bryan McCabe even has his online admirers.
But I've never seen a site that calls for the firing of a junior hockey coach. That, I would guess, is a first.
And one better than Paul Maurice.
