As late as last week, I was ready to meekly admit that I was wrong last autumn when I said the Montreal Canadiens made a questionable move by bringing up Carey Price instead of leaving him in the AHL for the year.

It wasn't all that long ago that Alex Kovalev was being run out of Montreal.

Thanks in part to the very real possibility of the Montreal Canadiens winning their 25th Stanley Cup sometimes this spring, Kovalev has earned his reprieve.

Once regarded as a selfish, pampered prima donna, Kovalev has shifted into another gear this season, made a case for the MVP of the Canadiens while winning over more than a few fans along the way.

You know the one - Ken Dryden standing at the top of his crease, leaning on the butt-end of his stick.

That image struck me when I read that it was on this date in 1971 (Mar.14) that Dryden made his NHL debut.
