It's all but certain now. Sometime over the next few nights, as this not-quite-what-we-expected Stanley Cup Final between the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins closes out, Nicklas Lidstrom will make NHL history while, at the same time, putting one of the most pointless post-season fallacies ever to bed once and for all.
All things being equal, it seems almost a foregone conclusion that Lidstrom will accept the most fabled piece of hardware in hockey - perhaps as early as Monday night - and hoist it high above his head. Watch closely. You'll be seeing history.
