Remember the motto "everyone has a price?" Forget about it.

Brian Burke just proved it to be a crock.

If loyalty were a suit, Burke would be looking pretty dapper right about now after rebuffing the obvious free-spending advances of the Toronto Maple Leafs to stay with Ducks owner Henry Samueli in Anaheim for at least another year.

Should the Anaheim Ducks make an unceremonious and premature exit from the Stanley Cup hunt, Brian Burke may have an excuse to waddle his moneymaker right out of Southern Cal.

If, in the next few days, the defending champions grudgingly shake hands with the Dallas Stars and saunter into the off-season - and right now, there is nothing to suggest that won't be happening - it may give Burke a window, an excuse, a need, whatever you want to call it, to pack up and bring his act east.

Pronger suspended eight games

Outside of sharing the same first name, Chris Pronger and Chris Simon now have more in common than you would think. Pronger was handed an eight-game suspension Saturday for stomping on Vancouver's Ryan Kesler during a game Wednesday night.

The suspension was the eighth of Pronger's career, which pulls him even with Simon in number of times banished.

Let's give credit where credit is due - Brian Burke is a clever man.

Burke's unique idea, as presented at the GM meetings this week in Florida, is to dupe the NHL into changing the rules so that teams would be assessed one-minute penalties, instead of the traditional two, in overtime.
