It seems through the opening two nights of the first World Women's Under-18 Championship, Canada, Sweden and the United States are playing a little game of "Light the Lamp."
As in, the first to 100 wins.
On a day when the final scores resembled something normally reserved for football, the host Canadians improved to 2-0 with a methodical 10-1 victory over Germany.
In other action Tuesday, the U.S. squad managed their second straight 11-0 win, this time laying the wood to Switzerland while Russia took a 14-0 shellacking at the hands of Sweden.
To put those three scores in perspective, in an NFL wild-card game last weekend, San Diego defeated Tennessee 17-6.
In football.
In the six combined games they've played, Canada, the U.S. and Sweden have hit double digits five times, outscoring their opposition 57-3 in those five contests.
Someday, the rest of the world may catch up in women's hockey.
But it's not going to be this week.
In two games, the Americans have scored 22 goals while allowing none. Canada has a 21-3 ratio while Sweden has found the net 18 times while giving up one.
The Russians must be wondering why they made the trip. In two losses, they have been outscored 25-0.
The beatings should continue Wednesday, with Canada taking on Finland, Switzerland facing off with Russia, the U.S. meeting Sweden and the Czechs locking horns with Germany.
