Henrik Zetterberg scored one of the prettiest goals you will ever see in the Western Conference semi final, but was it nothing but luck? You make the call.
The video evidence is in, now let the debate begin.
Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg scored what could be one of the best goals of the past season, let alone the playoffs, last week against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4 of their Western Conference semi final.
Zetterberg was spinning and, as he was falling to the ice, was still able to backhand a loose puck past Peter Budaj while ending up on flat on all fours.
Incredible hand-eye co-ordination, to say the least. And worthy of all the accolades coming his way thus far.
But some folks suggest it was blind luck with the argument being the puck simply hit his stick as he was spinning like a top.
Well, sometimes you've got to be lucky to be good. And we all know that Hank is damn good.
Looking at the video over and over at various speeds, it looks to me that he had full control of the puck for that fleeting moment, showing incredible control in finding the back of the net as he was going down.
Matter of fact, it really wasn't all that different from Alex Ovechkin's goal two years ago when he scored from on his back against the Coyotes. Incredible goal, but he also had to be a little lucky to be that good.
Zetterberg's goal will make season-ending highlight reels as the potential goal of the year. As good as Ovechkin's? Nah.
But if you watch closely, it's at least a candidate for one of the prettier goals of all-time.
