Jim Balsillie, NHL team dream still very much alive

Maybe, instead of schmoozing in Detroit or wherever else he found himself Thursday night, Gary Bettman should have flown into Toronto to hear Jim Balsillie speak at the Canadian Press Annual Dinner.

Chances are he may have left with a clue.

Then again, who the hell am I kidding?

It's one thing for a 15-year-old kid keeping his head up for opposing players who want a piece of him, but when it's his own coach laying the lumber, it's time to get the law involved.

That's what happened, if published allegations are correct, in a bizarre incident on Jan. 12 in Toronto.

Women's Under-18 heavyweights continue to roll

It seems through the opening two nights of the first World Women's Under-18 Championship, Canada, Sweden and the United States are playing a little game of "Light the Lamp."

As in, the first to 100 wins.

On a day when the final scores resembled something normally reserved for football, the host Canadians improved to 2-0 with a methodical 10-1 victory over Germany.
