There's something to be said for performing in familiar surroundings.
Just look at what Senators' captain Daniel Alfredsson has done at Ottawa's Scotiabank Place.
Alfie leads the NHL in home scoring, with 25 of his 30 points coming in Ottawa. Fantasy owners might be shocked at his plus-minus differential, which sits at plus-14 (minus-3 away to plus-11 home).
Now, road warriors are great fantasy fodder, and I gave them their due the other day. But inhospitable hosts are just as important to some pools.
Tampa's Vincent Lecavalier is a fine example, having shredded visiting teams for 24 of his league-leading 38 points. He has 11 of 16 goals at the St. Pete Times Forum and is plus-10 there versus even on the road.
Ageless wonder Mats Sundin leads all the Leafs with 22 points at the Air Canada Centre. Mats' plus-minus differential is astounding at plus-17 (plus-12 home, minus-5 away).
A rundown on some notable home scoring wizards is below, with a brief synopsis on their current fantasy value.
Paul Stastny, Colorado - Pardon my cheekiness, but Stastny is the real thing at the Pepsi Center. Twenty of his 25 points (tied for fifth overall) have been recorded at home. Alarming is his minus-9 rating on the road, although he is plus-13 at home. Start him at home every time but consider benching him on the road.
Mike Fisher, Ottawa - Fisher is Alfredsson's home-loving compadre. He has recorded all but two of his 15 points in Ottawa. Fantasy owners should be leery of this, as Ottawa has played just eight of 22 games on the road.
Ed Jovanovski, Phoenix - Jovo Cop has made guests to the Jobing.com Arena feel quite unwelcome, with two goals and 12 points in 11 home contests. His road stats are pitiful (three points, minus-7) so poolies may want to be careful adding Ed to their roster.
Dion Phaneuf, Calgary - He is Dion the Destroyer at the Pengrowth Saddledome, racking up three goals, 10 points and a plus-4 there so far. On the road, he is more Dion the Dud, with just three points and a minus-3.
Derek Roy, Buffalo - If Roy could get his act together on the road, the Sabres would not be hovering around .500. HSBC Arena has been kind to Derek, where he has compiled six goals and seven assist in 11 games. Outside Buffalo, though, he has just two goals and four points.
